Violinist
Hyun woong Lee
The gifted violinist, Lee Hyunwoong, was born in Seoul in 1982. His love and innate talent for music began early starting with piano lessons at age 4 and violin lessons at age 6.
Throughout his schooling, Lee was granted many prominent awards in South Korea. He attended Korea National University of Arts
and became the concert master of Joy of Strings, touring extensively throughout Korea. After receiving 1st prize at International Moscow Competition in 2006, he went to Russia and studied under professor Sergey Kravchenko at Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He also performed with Obninsk Orchestra and Moscow Chamber Orchestra conducted by Leonid Nikolaev. In 2007, he received 1st prize at the International Brahms Competition and his musical ability was acknowledged on the international stage.
In August 2011, he performed with the Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jose Ferreira Lobo at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall. In September of the same year, Lee performed Bizet’s Carmen with the world-famous soprano, Sumi Jo. In 2012, he was selected as one of the members of Seoul Arts Center Artist Series, new artist selection program.Throughout his extensive career Lee has been fortunate
to solo at Mendelssohn Hall Schumann-Haus,Germany and has been invited to perform in every country of Europe, the United States, Germany, Japan, Israel, Russia, and Italy. At the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig, Lee studied under professor Mariana Sirbu and also served as an assistant. He graduated with the highest honors, unanimously voted in favor of his Meisterklassenexamen course. Soon after graduation, Lee returned home and performed with Korean Symphony and Gangnam Symphony at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall. Lee made an appearance at Tongyeong International Concert Hall for the celebration of the opening, Tongyeong International Music Festival, and Seoul Arts Center IBK Artist Lounge. In 2015, Lee performed with Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra at New Year’s Music Concert and served as TIMP Ensemble concert master as a guest member. Currently, he is working as second concert master of Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra and lecturing at Kaywon Arts Middle School and Korea National University of Arts.
